AUSTRIAN GUPF HAUBE / GOLDHAUBE FOLK HEADDRESS, bonnet made of gilt-thread lace with sequins and 9k gold gilt-foil, featuring a floral design to cap, hood with gold latticed design and metal wire supports, silk bow applied to back having grapevine and scrolled pattern, lined with later pink fabric. Waldviertel region, Austria. Late 19th century 9 1/2" LOA, 9 1/2" HOA without ribbon. Good to very good overall condition with some wear, gilt-thread, sequins, and foil with losses to finishes, denting, and bending. Interior lining of hood with some tears and losses, edge of brim probably mended and a few other mended spots to cap, ribbon with spots of wear, fraying to ends, original interior lining likely covered by later fabric.
